Most structured templates use a mixture of both methods, they apply catalog formats and may have certain overrides defined. If your template uses a combination, read on. If the formatting is applied by catalog formats only, you may improve your template by changing some catalog formats. If the formatting is applied by the EDD alone, you can make only local chan ges to certain paragraphs, which may disappear as soon as the EDD rules are reapplied.Since there are multiple methods how formatting is applied to element content your method to control pagination may have different results. The reality is that not every template is driven to that 95% level of automation. There is a parallel forum dealing with structured topics.įirst point: In a well designed environment the template plus the formatting rules of the element definitions (EDD) should take care of most pagination issues. It is good you mentioned you are working with structured documents. I'm using FM in a corporate environment and am on a tight deadline to deliver this documentation with a parallel software release. I untick them and try to apply the new settings, but the ticks reappear every time. Secondly, once the tick boxes have been checked, I am unable to remove the checks/settings. Firstly, I don't see that these settings take effect at all when applied. The problem with "Keep With: Next/Previous Pgf" is more troubling. In the case "Widow/Orphan Lines," when I change the number in the dialogue box, it does change the placement of the paragraphs to which they are applied, but not using the specified number. Neither tool effects the changes it should. However, now that I'm actually implementing changes in real documentation with them, they are extremely buggy. In my initial tests they seemed to work fine. I used the settings in the Pagination section ofthe Paragraph Designer, both the "Keep With: Next/Previous Pgf" and "Widow/Orphan Lines" settings. Recently I needed to introduce special formatting for page breaks into a 200+ page document. I'm using FM 9.0p237 on a PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
